Apple finally released the final version of iOS 10.2 firmware for all users, which includes

several new features and improvements. If you have already upgraded to iOS 10.2, but want to switch back to firmware 10.1.1, because you want to be prepared for jailbreak iOS 10.1.1 or because you find this update too "raw" or battery life is reduced on this firmware, there is a solution.

The rollback procedure from firmware 10.2 to iOS 10.1.1 is pretty easy, since Apple is still signing iOS 10.2 firmware.

Important points

  • You can only go back to firmware 10.1.1, which is the latest version. You cannot revert to earlier previous versions because Apple stopped signing older iOS firmware files.
  • You can return to using firmware 10.1.1 only as long as Apple signs iOS 10.1.1 firmware files.
  • It is important to backup your iOS device using either iCloud services or iTunes, so that you can recover from a backup if something goes wrong.
  • Please note that the process includesdeleting all data from your device and then restoring it from a backup, so this may take some time depending on how much data needs to be restored and the speed of your Internet connection (if you are restoring from a backup from iCloud).

Check your real-time subscription status

In order to find out if Apple is still signing firmware files, you need to check the status on that website. Green lines with a checkmark indicate that Apple is still signing firmware files, and you can perform a downgrade procedure for firmware 10.2 to firmware 10.1.1.

  • Now you must put the device in DFU mode (if you want to know what this means, then read about it here):
  • Connect the device to the computer.
  • Turn off the device while holding the Sleep / Wake or Power button, and select "Turn off" with a swipe.
  • Hold the power button for 3 seconds.
  • Start holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep / Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Release the power button while continuing to hold the home button until you get a pop-up in iTunes that a device is found that is in recovery mode.
  • Click on the OK button.
  • While holding down the Alt / Option key on a Mac or the Shift key in Windows on the keyboard, click the Restore iPhone ... (iPad / iPod Touch ...) button. Note: If you immediately select the "Restore iPhone" button without holding down the Option / Alt key on a Mac or the Shift key on Windows, this will lead to the recovery of a non-jailbroken iOS 10.1.1 OS on the device.
  • Select the iOS 10.1.1 IPSW file that you already downloaded earlier.
  • Then click on the Restore and Update button to continue.
  • On the next screen, you will see information about updating the iOS 10.1.1 OS. Click on the "Next" button, and then on the "Agree" button to continue.
  • The iTunes application will check the software and install it on the device. This should take about 10 minutes.
  • After successful installation of firmware 10.1.1, you should see a white screen that says 'HELO'. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the device and restore your personal device settings from the backup you made before installing the iOS 10.1.1 OS.

That's all. Now your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch has successfully passed the downgrade procedure from iOS 10.2 to iOS 10.1.1.
